Back to the Future - Part 3

Next stop - Jaigarh fort , 15 kms from Jaipur. This is home to the worlds largest cannon, Jaivana.

What we heard was that this cannon was fired only once and the place where the shell landed, has been converted into a pond .

Apparently the king did not estimate the impact that a cannon this big could create.

The fort was so well planned, that it could store water for about 10,000 people for about 1 year. Apparently below the water tanks were store houses for the kings riches.

It is said that Indira Gandhi got to know about this and seized most of riches during her regime.

Back to the Future - Part 2

Our next stop was Jaipur. Dont miss the Dal Batti Churma there. A very tasty dish :)
Jaipur has many forts. We saw the Amber and Jaigarh forts. Really nice ones. Apparently there hasnt been any war that was fought here. The king always made sure that he befriends the invaders. Be it the Mughals or the British.


This is a pic of the Hawa Mahal. A wall for the royals to enjoy the breeze from the other side.

Back to the Future - Part 1

I took a few days off and went back in time last week.

First stop : Agra

The first stop was Akbar's tomb.I didnt get down and had to be content with this pic shot from the car.Pics below - First look at the Taj

After we got in, the first views of the Taj. Indeed a spectacle.
Now, here is when our guides gave us some unofficial info.. The Taj was actually a temple which was later on converted. Proof of this is from the pic below.
Some more : The pillar you see doesnt have the 8 sides as you think. Its optical illusion. In real , this pillar has only 3 sides. The lines are drawn in such a way that they create an illusion. Amazing stuff indeed.

Into the Wild

Last week, my dream of going to Masinagudi came true. Am not sure the number of times, we planned and cancelled trips to Masinagudi earlier. However, this time that was not to happen. Driving down TN is really fun with some places having long winding roads with very less traffic.
My friends had taken the pain to book a resort there. We went for a trek the next day and were lucky to spot some deer.

It was indeed a relaxed long weekend for everyone 

We also spotted this guy who probably just escaped an attack. His leg showed signs of some bad injuries

Photo Walk

Some shots from the 18th PhotoWalk.  The plan was to go to Fort St.George.But seeing folks with Backpacks and DSLRs,the cops didnt let us through. It was a very tiring walk indeed. 

We started our walk at Mylapore, took a MRTS to Chennai Fort, and then walked our way to the Fort.

My last stop was at the Attari - Wagah Border. Every day, there is a flag hoisting and flag lowering ceremony across the international border

.. and the gates are closed at the end of the day.
The road to Attari is one of the oldest and longest roads in S. Asia Its called the Grand Trunk Road and runs from Bangladesh to India and finally to Pakistan.
