Photo Walk

Some shots from the 18th PhotoWalk.  The plan was to go to Fort St.George.But seeing folks with Backpacks and DSLRs,the cops didnt let us through. It was a very tiring walk indeed.

We started our walk at Mylapore, took a MRTS to Chennai Fort, and then walked our way to the Fort.

The Land of Five Rivers - Part III / III

My last stop was at the Attari - Wagah Border. Every day, there is a flag hoisting and flag lowering ceremony across the international border

A view of the Pakistani Audience...
...and the Indian side
The Flag Lowering that happens just before sunset ...
.. and the gates are closed at the end of the day.
The road to Attari is one of the oldest and longest roads in S. Asia Its called the Grand Trunk Road and runs from Bangladesh to India and finally to Pakistan.

The Land of Five Rivers - Part II

After the Golden Temple, my next stop was at Jalianwala Bagh. To escape the firing a lot of them jumped into a well. Apparently 120 bodies were recovered from this well.
This wall has around 28 bullet marks which is still visible.

The Land of Five Rivers

After a long time, I had the opportunity to shoot almost a Gb load of pics at one shot. All this in four days. Honestly, I never thought, I would get a chance to visit the beautiful Golden Temple at Amritsar. At around 450 kms from Delhi, Amritsar is a 8 hr train ride. Apart from the temple, must-see include Jalianwala Bagha and the Wagah Border. I shall post pics of both these places in the next few days.
This temple went through a very forgettable past in the early 80s. I guess the people involved did pay a price for all they did. Apparently one of the minarets below were also damaged then. They were rebuilt again. More about the operation can be read here

Some pics of the temple after sunset.
To be contd....

Sunflower and the Sun God

A wonderful trip last weekend with Amit , Kannan and Mr . C :) . Part of the highway between the neighbouring state is filled with these sunflower fields. The best part of the trip was that we stopped at almost every place where we wanted to shoot pics including a remote forest to chase a deer.
Kannan shot this pic below and spotted a 'face' in it. Though I could spot it on the LCD of the camera, couldnt see it on full screen.

Life behind bars

It all started here. There was an article talking about a traffic jam for hours in front of the old central jail .Apparently this was open for public viewing. Inmates from here were moved to another prison and this building is going to be demolished soon.

The pic above says it all. Open 1837. After the inmates were moved out 3 years back, this building has not been maintained or painted. Am assuming it was probably cleaner when there were ppl in it.
This pic above shows the visiting areas.  The one below shows a typical cell.

Cell for protestors, etc. There are a lot of 'beds' made of cement. There are atleast 4-5 halls like these.
Inside a typical cell.

Pic below reads " Senthil, serving life Sentence, no.780 "
Wonder why, but some cells had this. This is for the prison wardens to push the plates in.

A lot of walls had some amazing pictures drawn. There seemed to be a lot of wonderful artists / painters in here.

Pic Above and Below : A less than 4*4 room for the ones who create more trouble 'inside'. This place is called 'Condemned Room '.  This is located way behind the other buildings. With no electricity, and walls painted black too, this block has 8 cells. The writings on the wall scare you .
There is a medical center which houses a team of doctors . Pic below is from the medical center
View from medical center.
